Vercel-hosted applications can now provision Amazon S3 directly from the Vercel Marketplace and v0. AWS announced the integration on October 14, bringing its general-purpose object storage alongside S3 Tables and S3 Vectors into Vercel’s storage setup flow.
What changes for hosted apps
A developer can create an S3 bucket from Vercel’s Storage tab, select a region and connect it to a project without first setting up the resource in the AWS console. AWS says Vercel supplies the connection configuration as project environment variables. For a site that stores user uploads, images or documents, the relevant option is a general-purpose S3 bucket; Tables and Vectors address separate analytics and search workloads.
At runtime, the integration uses Vercel’s OIDC credential provider to obtain temporary AWS credentials through AWS Security Token Service, rather than requiring a long-lived access key in the app’s configuration. AWS also says the resource can be provisioned through v0 and billed through the connected AWS account.
Operator considerations
The shorter provisioning path is useful for teams deploying web applications on Vercel while keeping file storage on AWS. It does not remove the need to check bucket access rules, region choice, storage and transfer costs, and how uploaded objects are served to visitors. Operators should also distinguish this integration from a CDN: S3 stores objects, but the announcement does not say that creating a bucket automatically configures public delivery or caching.
